Full Body Burials at Sea by Sea Services

Sea Services offers dignified memorial services, both attended and unattended.  Our desire to meet the needs of a growing segment of the population interested in Full Body Burials at Sea, requires that we work closely with funeral professionals in order to satisfy strict government regulations.  Sea Services provides this service from Florida East Coast, with additional ports of departure planned for 2014/15.

In the United States, full body burials must be at least 3 nautical miles from land and in water no less than 600 feet deep.  Some areas require a lengthy journey to reach a 600 foot deep point of dissemination.  The current average price for a Full Body Burial in 2014 is $8000.00.  This doesn’t include a viewing or any other traditional memorial service typically held in a local funeral home.   A representative of our partner funeral home will accompany the deceased to the vessel and must witness the burial – Florida only.

Arranging a full body burial requires several days’ notice; therefore the wishes of the individual should be made known to his or her next of kin or executor.  When possible, Sea Services should be advised as soon as possible to make these logistical arrangements.  In the Northeast, weather conditions may delay a departure for several days or more.  This isn’t a problem because our funeral partner will store the human remains until such time that a voyage is safe.

Those family members (up to 20) who would like to witness the burials at sea are welcome to be on board.   Others are welcome to place a flower on the casket before vessel departure to say their final good byes.

Please note bodies must be embalmed prior to shipment.
