Musicians are available for your service such as a violinist and cello player from the New York Julliard School of Music.

Upon arrival at the site of internment, someone will carry the urn or container to the rear of the boat, while flowers or flower petals are distributed to your guest.  The scattering may be performed by a family member or mate, followed by your guest tossing the flowers into the water.  If a biodegradable urn is used, a mate will place the urn in a basket, which is then gently lowered into the water.    A few minutes are spent at the site, as the boat pulls away; the captain circles the area as a sign of respect, and then blows the ship’s horn in honor.

The trip back may be a time to gather, have a snack and something to drink.  You and your guest may bring aboard food and beverages or you may decide to dine at any one of 35 restaurants and eateries in the South Street Sea Port.

Special Long Island New York Burials at Sea

Burial at Sea or Sea Scattering is a time-honored tradition that is practiced around the World.  Today, Burial at Sea is gaining in popularity and acceptance because cremation is steadily becoming today’s choice by people from all walks of life.

The reasons for preferring Burial at Sea are varied.  For some, it seems a more natural process than ground burial.  Others have environmental concerns.  Still others are honoring a request of their loved one.

Burials at Sea are performed everyday, both with family in attendance and without.    Family attended charters vary from just a few individuals to many and can be arranged with very short notice.

Memorials on board the boat vary as well.  Some boats are large enough to set up a remembrance table, which includes the urn, photos of your loved one and a few mementos.   Music if often played as a backdrop, while a reading, prayer or funny stories are shared. Toast with champagne or just a moment of silence before your captain signals that the site of internment has been reached.  He or she will position the vessel so the wind blows the cremated remains away from the boat. Your captain will stop or slow the boat and direct you to scatter or in the case of a burial at sea, lower the urn.  Most families will follow up by tossing flowers, flower petals, or a loved ones favorite candy or cookie. A few minutes are spent for reflection and conditions permitting, your captain will encircle the spot for the “Circle of Remembrance” in honor of your loved one.

Captain’s Services are performed when family members can’t be there.  Often because of time constraints or the inability to travel to the destination where the burial will take place.  Our selected captains will perform the ceremony with dignity and respect.  A requested prayer can be recited upon your request.

Full Body Burials call for pricing.

Memorial Certificates are mailed to you after the service, the certificate is suitable for framing and includes your loved ones name, vicinity of burial, the state in which it was performed and the date.

Included with your family service is our Messages of Love Scattering/Burial Urn: Our Scattering Container is easy to handle, allowing the release of the remains in a slow and ceremonious manner. Crematoriums provide you with a temporary plastic or cardboard box containing the cremated remains in a plastic bag.  Scattering from a bag is cumbersome and lacks dignity; what you envisioned as a scattering turns into a dumping.  This urn comes complete with two end caps; one ready for scattering, the other for use as a burial urn.
